Neighborhood Saftey a NWV priority is supported by the neighbors & merchants alike. North Winton Village neighbors are walking their neighborhood daily with their dogs or to shop at local stores or just for excersise. This activity encourages neighborhood interaction and an awareness of unusual activity which can be reported to RPD. Read more below.

City and County Parks:
North Winton Village has a number of refreshing parks to engage in a broad variety activities. Nature hikes that overlook the Irondequiot Creek valley, Softball diamonds, Tennis, and biking are just a few of the activities you are able to enjoy in our parks.

Tryon Park

Tryon Park contains 82 undeveloped acres on the western shore of Irondequoit Bay and offers hiking and natural scenic areas. How To Get Here Tryon Park is located off Tryon Road off of North Winton Road between Browncroft and Empire Boulevards. Park Facilities, Attractions & Activities This park is mainly undeveloped but offers nature enthusiasts some hiking trails.
Park Rules Tryon Park is open daily 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and has a Carry In-Carry Out rule, which means you must take all your garbage with you for disposal after leaving the park. Glass is not allowed. All pets must be leashed and you are responsible for cleaning up after them.

The Wetlands Information: (585)256-4950
The Wetlands are located on the north side of Ellison Park and continue to Irondequoit Bay. This marsh area is great for canoe and kyak access to the bay. In 2001 an additional 12 acres were acquired in the wetlands area.

Tryon Park West

Located off Winton Road in the city's northeast area, Tryon Park is home to numerous Little League and softball teams. The basketball and tennis courts are widely used by neighbors.

NORTH WINTON VILLAGE SAFETY CENTER
1933 EAST MAIN STREET
The North Winton Village Neighborhood Safety Center came into existence in October of 2008 with funding from Senator James Alesi’s legislative grant. The original idea for a presence on East Main Street was from RPD Commander James Shepard, when the North Winton Village Safety and Code Violation Committee walked East Main Street for a couple of years with RPD and the City Code Inspectors attempting to mitigate the drug problem. Many issues with landlords and property owners came up on East Main Street. Commander James Shepard said, "You need to rent space and have a presence". The North Winton Village Neighborhood Association was awarded a $7,000 grant to pay for rent and utilities, from the NewYork State, Division of Criminal Justice Services through Senator James Alessi’s District appropriations, which ended in March of 2009. This very important project remains a priority as it has become part of the East Main Street landscape.

The North Winton Village Neighborhood Safety Center on 1933 Main Street has become the anchor of the East Main Street neighborhood revitalization efforts, trusted by neighbors, police, organizations and businesses, tenants and landlords in the area. The City of Rochester, PathStone, North Winton Village, NeighborWorks Rochester, the NBN Public Safety Committee and the Third Annual North Winton Village Festival of the Arts committee use the Safety Center for their meetings to ensure a neighborhood connection on East Main Street. The North Winton Village Safety Committee open to the public meets weekly every Thursday, at 11:30 am.

North Winton Village is collaborating with NeighborWorks Rochester, staffperson, Katrina Hanson with their Healthy Blocks Project in the East Main Street area. Our City Council Respresenative, Elaine Spaull, County Legislature, Carrie Andrews, City School Board Commissioner, Melisza Campos have consulted with North Winton Village regarding our issues on East Main Street helping to build trust with the residents, tenants, neighbors, landlords and businesses and city officers.

The Rochester Police Department Pac Tac, North Edge Neighborhood Association, East High School, The Center for Youth, Neighbors Building Neighborhoods, Browncroft Neighborhood Association, RGRTA Browncroft Baptist Church have partnered with North Winton Village on many safety and quality of life issues.
